    Reported from Mary Norwood

At their Wednesday, June 21st meeting, Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to reject the 2017 Fulton County Residential Property Tax Digest. Residential properties within Fulton County will be taxed this year based on the 2016 property tax digest. The Board of Commissioners agreed to work with members of the Georgia General Assembly to develop new property tax policy for the years ahead.

The Board of Commissioners, Atlanta City Council, the Atlanta Board of Education and the Fulton County School Board each must now approve a millage rate for 2017 based on the 2016 tax digest.

Within the next 2 months, the Fulton County Tax Commissioner’s Office will mail new 2017 property tax bills to residential property owners. The 1881 State statute, which the Board of Commissioners used today to reject the 2017 residential tax digest, does not extend tax relief to commercial property owners.

Fulton County Commissioner Bob Ellis sent an email to his constituents stating “please disregard the 2017 assessments you received several weeks ago and if you have already filed an appeal, it is no longer valid. New assessments will be mailed within a month and those will come with a new right of appeal, should you still not agree with your assessed value.”

I encourage you to contact the Board of Commissioners if you need additional information. Please continue to check online to view your property tax bill at the Fulton County Tax Commissioner’s Office.
